Man with mannequin fetish gets prison term
PONTIAC, Mich., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A Detroit man has been sentenced to 18 months to 30 years in jail for breaking into stores to satisfy his fetish for female mannequins. Ronald Dotson's most recent arrest for his seventh offense came in October, within days of his release after serving an earlier sentence, the Detroit News reported. The judge who sentenced him Thursday said Dotson has never been violent but said his odd behavior causes fear in others. "I've never been able to take care of myself," Dotson told the judge, the Detroit Free Press said. In the most recent case, police found Dotson outside a Ferndale store where a window had been smashed. Dotson had apparently been trying to get to a mannequin dressed as a French maid. Dotson's lawyer, Edward Cohn, described him as "a timid, good-natured man," who has never been able to work and still lives with his parents at the age of 39, the News said.
Arlington, are you sure you're prepared for this?
On the roads to the Pontiac Silverdome there was a mammoth traffic jam, caused in part by the motorcade of the then-vice president, George H.W. Bush. Detroit, we thereby concluded, is a lousy place to host a Super Bowl. Miami? A friend got mugged at a freeway exit. Atlanta? An icy, Super-sized mistake. You see, you can't win hosting a Super Bowl. If the weather doesn't sabotage five years of planning, the visiting media surely will. Thus, some of us swallowed with bittersweet milk the news last week that Roger Staubach will chair a committee that will attempt to bring Super Bowl XLV to the Cowboys' new Arlington stadium, the Jethrodome. Nothing against Roger, and certainly nothing against Arlington. But some of us have been to more than 20 of these Super Bowl things, and we've seen it happen.
Mannequin theft could get man 30 years
PONTIAC -- A man with an apparent fetish for store mannequins was sentenced to 18 months to 30 years in jail Thursday after pleading no contest to attempted burglary and habitual offender charges. Ronald A. Dotson, 39, of Detroit was arrested Oct. 9 in Ferndale after breaking into a Woodward Avenue cleaning supply business to steal a female mannequin dressed in a black-and-white French maid's outfit, police said. It was Dotson's seventh arrest and conviction for such a crime in Metro Detroit over 13 years. He had only been out of prison for six days when he was caught in the act of satisfying his apparent erotic fetish, police said. "He's not violent, he just has this thing for mannequins," said Edward Cohn, Dotson's defense attorney. Following his arrest Dotson was examined and found competent to stand trial by state doctors.
