Arlington, are you sure you're prepared for this?
On the roads to the Pontiac Silverdome there was a mammoth traffic jam, caused in part by the motorcade of the then-vice president, George H.W. Bush. Detroit, we thereby concluded, is a lousy place to host a Super Bowl. Miami? A friend got mugged at a freeway exit. Atlanta? An icy, Super-sized mistake. You see, you can't win hosting a Super Bowl. If the weather doesn't sabotage five years of planning, the visiting media surely will. Thus, some of us swallowed with bittersweet milk the news last week that Roger Staubach will chair a committee that will attempt to bring Super Bowl XLV to the Cowboys' new Arlington stadium, the Jethrodome. Nothing against Roger, and certainly nothing against Arlington. But some of us have been to more than 20 of these Super Bowl things, and we've seen it happen.
Liberty Bowl trophy takes slow ride home to USC
For a school with so few bowl trophies, you'd think South Carolina would have been more careful with its Liberty Bowl hardware. Amid the celebration of the Gamecocks' 44-36 victory over Houston last week in Memphis, the Liberty Bowl trophy wound up in the hands of their long snapper, who missed the return flight to Columbia, but returned the trophy unscathed. Hitching a ride home with his roommates, senior Scott Morgan brought the Liberty trophy — a replica of the famous bell in Philadelphia — through five states and nearly 600 miles before delivering it with no scratches or dents other than its signature crack. The trophy survived a long ride in the crowded back seat of a Pontiac and a three-hour stop in a Hooters' parking lot outside Atlanta.
2007 Saturn Aura XR Review
The Bottom Line: Top-notch sedan with comfort, convenience, decent power and a comfortable ride. Fuel economy was decent, but could have been higher. Yes, I know Saturn, from the start, had the "L" series of sedans and wagons. The L designation represented Large, as compared to the S series vehicles whish were smaller. But Saturn has been going through a nomenclature change over the past few years, and the new mid-size Saturn is the Aura, a viable competitor in the mid-size arena. The first time I drove the car, I was limited to about 15 minutes. Thankfully, I finally had an opportunity to drive the Aura in an extended test. It was worth the wait. Don't be surprised if the Aura re minds you of a couple of other GM cars. It shares its platform with the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6, and feels a lot like a Malibu/Impala clone.

DeLong's own collection is spread throughout his home on East Lehman Street, from the attic to the walls of his dining room. Many of the covers are neatly flattened and placed in white binders in his office upstairs and organized by category — automobiles, banks, hotels, state, county, to name a few. Others are displayed on shelves with related memorabilia. Each of the covers shows some colorful advertisement for a business, and each has a story to tell. "It's a good history of all the little businesses that have come and gone," DeLong explained. Paper matchbooks were invented in the late 19th century, attributed to Joshua Pusey of Philadelphia. A pair of collectors, though, say the actual inventor may have been Charles M. Bowman, a businessman from Lebanon. Whoever the inventor was, many matchbooks were used the same way, as advertisements that listed the companies' names and addresses.
