2007 Saturn Aura XR Review
The Bottom Line: Top-notch sedan with comfort, convenience, decent power and a comfortable ride. Fuel economy was decent, but could have been higher. Yes, I know Saturn, from the start, had the "L" series of sedans and wagons. The L designation represented Large, as compared to the S series vehicles whish were smaller. But Saturn has been going through a nomenclature change over the past few years, and the new mid-size Saturn is the Aura, a viable competitor in the mid-size arena. The first time I drove the car, I was limited to about 15 minutes. Thankfully, I finally had an opportunity to drive the Aura in an extended test. It was worth the wait. Don't be surprised if the Aura re minds you of a couple of other GM cars. It shares its platform with the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6, and feels a lot like a Malibu/Impala clone.
General Motors offering zero-percent financing
DETROIT - General Motors Corp., the world's largest automaker, will offer no-interest financing for as long as 60 months on many 2006 and 2007 models after a 17 percent U.S. sales drop in January. The 60-month, zero-percent financing began Tuesday on models including the Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Buick Lucerne sedans, as well as some heavy-duty pickup trucks, GM said Tuesday in a statement. Most other models will have no-interest financing as long as 36 months. The offers run through Feb. 20. GM said it may have slashed incentive spending too much last month as it worked to curtail the programs to help restore profit. The Detroit-based automaker posted more than $13 billion in losses in seven quarters through Sept. 30 as U.S. sales fell. GM cut January incentives by 21 percent from December to an average of $2,221 a vehicle, according to market analyst Autodata Corp.
Nissan Altima Tops Consumer Reports' Ratings for Family Sedans
The redesigned Nissan Altima accelerated to the top of Consumer Reports' ratings of family sedans in tests for the March 2007 issue. Rated "Excellent" overall the Altima now ranks alongside CR's top-rated Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. The Altima 3.5SE virtually ties with the Honda Accord V6, Consumer Reports' top-rated family sedan. Among four-cylinder sedans tested by CR, the Altima 2.5S ranks just behind the Volkswagen Passat 2.0T. "The redesigned Altima is a well-rounded family sedan in both 2.5S and 3.5SE trim levels," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in East Haddam, Connecticut. "Both the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 engines deliver very good performance while getting good fuel economy." The magazine tested basic and uplevel versions of five family sedans -- the Altima, Kia Optima, Saturn Aura, Pontiac G6, and Chrysler Sebring.
