Bonaire man dies in collision
WARNER ROBINS - A Bonaire man died Friday evening when he was thrown from his car in a collision at the intersection of Ga. 247 and Booth Road. Eduardo Cordova Hernandez was traveling too fast for conditions when he lost control of his 1994 Pontiac Firebird and collided with a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Joseph Caum of Warner Robins, according to a news release from the Houston County Sheriff's Office. Hernandez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was traveling south on Ga. 247 shortly after 7 p.m. when he tried to change lanes and skidded into the northbound lanes and into Caum's path, the release stated. Rescue workers pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene and transported Caum and his four passengers to hospitals in Warner Robins in Macon for treatment of their injuries, the release stated.
NHTSA investigating Pontiac Grand Prix engine fires
Drivers of 1999-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTPs might not want to park their GPs inside their garages after word that NHTSA is investigating those models for engine fires. Grand Prix GTPs are equipped with superchargers, which generate heat as well as HP. Could that be the main culprit? Perhaps, but there are plenty of other added components that differentiate the blown six from the normally aspirated one, too. We'll just have to see how the investigation pans out. There have been 21 complaints and 16 engine fires since the models were introduced. The fires seem to start about 15 minutes after the car has been parked and turned off. The government has opened an investigation into engine fires in Pontiac Grand Prix cars, officials said Friday. The investigation involves 1999-2002 versions of the Grand Prix GTP with supercharged V6 engines. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it received 21 complaints from consumers, including 16 involving fires that started five to 15 minutes after the vehicle was parked and the ignition was switched off. Tower Automotive Inc. seeks return of $225M Tower Automotive Inc . units sued hundreds of suppliers and service providers seeking the return of about $225 million paid out in the months before the parent company filed for bankruptcy in February 2005. Tower of Novi filed the suits in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan against companies ranging from Dofasco Inc., a unit of steelmaker Arcelor Mittal, to banks and cleaning contractors.
Crash into oncoming vehicle kills man, 20
A 20-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon after his car crossed into oncoming traffic in Conover. The crash occurred about 2 p.m. on Conover Boulevard East near Comfort Drive, said Conover police Sgt. Jeff Jackson.Ricardo Lee Limon of North Wilkesboro was driving west in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am when he crossed the center line in a curve, witnesses told police. Limon's car smashed into an oncoming 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, Jackson said. The driver of that car, Wanda Morrison Beatty, 52, was wearing a seat belt and the airbags deployed, Jackson said. She was treated at Catawba Valley Medical Center and released Saturday. Limon was pronounced dead at the hospital, Jackson said.
