Four-time NASCAR Cup champion JEFF GORDON is off to a good start on his debut in the world of 24-hour endurance racing, after turning the fastest lap in Rolex Series night practice Thursday at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the Rolex 24.
Gordon, making his debut with the #10 SunTrust Racing operation, posted a lap of 1m 43.853s in the distinctive blue Riley-Pontiac he shares with MAX ANGELELLI and team owner WAYNE TAYLOR.
Gordon's Tradin' Paint partner from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, former Formula One driver and now NASCAR rookie, JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, was second fastest in night practice, driving the TELMEX/Target Lexus Riley DP, at 1m 44.275s. Gordon and Montoya traded cars, a NASCAR Cup car for a Formula One car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway several years ago.
Velocity see off new arrivals
Nunthorpe Velocity gave new team Easingwold Vikings a baptism of fire, sentencing them to a heavy defeat on their Second Division debut. Velocity are now three games unbeaten in Division Two. In the game of the week, Norton Knights B went down 78-44 away to Richmond Vikings. Sam Butterworth was in fine early form for Norton and, although he missed a few early shots, he produced steal after steal. Ryan Dixon was first on the score sheet with a fast break lay-up for Vikings with Butterworth finding the net soon after. .

General Motors (NYSE:GM) says it is considering selling Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. GM says Allison's commercial and military operations are not central to its mission of designing, manufacturing and selling cars and light trucks globally. Allison is headquartered in Indianapolis and has seven plants, which employ 3,400 workers.
