Home invasion suspect dies
PONTIAC -- A 21-year-old Pontiac man who was shot by an armed homeowner when he allegedly forced his way into a home with two other men last month died early Tuesday from a gunshot wound to the chest. Herbert McDaniels died in Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. Police said McDaniels was named in a criminal warrant as one of three men who forced their way into a house on Cloverlawn Street at about 4 a.m. on Jan. 29. The 33-year-old homeowner told police he armed himself after hearing a loud noise when the men kicked in a door. The man shouted for the three to leave and when they ignored him and continued advancing into the house, he fired off two shots. "He saw one of them holding a gun and heard someone screaming as they fled but wasn't sure if he hit someone or not," said Oakland County assistant prosecutor John Skrzynski.

Three teens charged in Farmington bus vandalism
PONTIAC -- Three Farmington High teenagers were charged today in the Jan. 5 bus vandalism that idled 12,165 students in the Farmington school district. The three, all 16-year-old boys, appeared before Oakland Circuit Family Court Referee David Batdorf-Barnes on charges of intentional damage to school buses and malicious destruction of property. Air was let out of the 104 tires on 62 buses, prompting officials to cancel school for all students. "These are serious charges and I have serious concerns about their parental supervision, or rather lack of it," said assistant Oakland County prosecuting attorney Keri Middleditch, who asked Batdorf-Barnes to require cash bonds and electronic tethers as condition of bond, if made by any of the boys' families. Police said all the boys have past contacts with police or the courts as juveniles for malicious mischief and other offense.
